Why this is a secret

Why do we all have secrets?
Why is secrecy important?
People have died to protect their privacy, why?
Let me start by asking you one question?
How valuable is a piece of information that everybody knows?
Sure some things, which we might classify as common sense, “need” to be known by everybody.
- Putting your hand in a fire will burn you.
- Having unprotected sex can give you diseases which may even kill you (aids).
- Committing suicide by jumping in front of a crowded bus, is pretty selfish.
- And the list goes on…
But in terms of your own job, or running your own business, how important is that you have “an edge”, that you have skills that other people don’t, that you know things that other people don’t, that you can see the big picture, when others (like your competitors, or the guy you’re fighting for that promotion).
Certainly this is a huge leap from concepts like “no one has the right to put a price on knowledge”, the “Internet is free”, “open source software” (like this very blog is based upon) and in terms of Karma and “sharing”, it is not a comfortable fit at all.
Or can this come under the label of “balance” and of sharing, but of still retaining a unique usefulness.
After all, the main thing I’ve learnt over recent years, is that one person can NOT do it all. Even if they are capable (skilled) there aren’t enough hours in the day! Not even if you only sleep for 90 minutes per day – trust me!
In mother nature, of all the asexual creatures (those who can self breed), what role does the “pack”have in their lives?
So what are the secrets and why do we still have them?
What is my secret and why would I tell you?
