How many Jeff Walkers does it take to change a light bulb?

How to launch with zero list or JV partners…

Jeff Walker released the Todd Brown launch case study. Todd started from ZERO with no list (well actually 17) and no JV partners and not even any reputation with his market.

He had a web based software product which he wanted to break in to a second niche.

He did market research for a golden nugget, a big market, with a lot of money to spend.
The first niche he picked had big numbers according to his keyword research, but he soon discovered that it did not have lots of money and was not growing and didn’t have significant competitors to prove it was vibrant.

So he found another niche which did have “lots of money to spend”

He used Google PPC ads to drive an opt-in page to drive leads to his software product which he wanted to launch in 6 weeks time.

His first email went to 17 people, but had very little click thrus.
With the continued PPC ads, he built it up to 29 people ad sent a second email.
By the time of the third email he had 156 people to his list (driven from PPC ads).

All the way through he tried to differentiate himself from his competitors by changing the look and feel of what he did. The third email was a report. The B3 business blueprint.
He even formated the page numbers and did everything he could to make it stand out.

He found 2 JV partners who had similar, but non competing, products, which he found from Google research. He picked people who matched his own marketing style. He picked up the phone and telephoned them. He offered to do something for them… Not just to sell them a profit share in his product, but to genuinely see if he could do something for them, for free.

Post joint venture with his 2 JVs, his list went up to 404 people. (But 404 actual spenders is better than 4000 casuals). One of the JVs was the top player in the niche.

To follow up, he did a video, about the price and guarantee fr his web based software and what it would do for the customer. He teased them with the future launch date and the likely high price (ie $1000).

But of course the price wasn’t going to be high (but only $99 pm) and the discount was because it was part of a market beta test, but still guaranteed to work for them; risk reversal, with limited scarcity slots for testers.

458 people later… a fast action (time sensitive, limited quantity) bonus videoes to be thrown in. Scarcity and urgency with very low numbers (like in 10’s) ratified by wanting to get the cream of testers who really wanted it. He wanted sold out signs quickly for the bonuses to build the hype.
From 477 people, in DAY ONE 71 people signed up at $99 pm = $7029 pm, a $84,348 PA instant business.

Today, aided by some viral WOM forum activity, some more JV partners and an on-line trade magazine deal, the list is currently around 3000 people. Then he was asked to present at seminars, along side some leading niche celebrities, building his credibility all the time.
They both kept apologising for it sounding like an InfoMercial, with Todd being so greatful to have a successful 5 figure PA income just from the 1 niche launch, lifestyle (even he isn’t a millionaire yet). But enthusiasm for what you do, and your enthusiasm about your product/business IMHO is part of what business is about!
