On the 24th of October 2007, my 2 day old Virtual Pet Panda (Facebook Fluff friend) DIED in a database crash.

In the short time I had him, I let him down badly

I fed him. I petted him. I had spent nearly all of my credits on treats for him for the next few days. And yet at last count he was “Homesick” and “Friendless”.

Well “I” was your friend Bertrum.What about me?

I didn’t know how I was going to sustain him. Or what I should do to make his life better.

I think he would have enjoyed his treats. A bamboo shoot (quite a Panda treat AFAIK) and a very expensive fruit cocktail which I though might bring some colour in to his little life.

I hope he has them with him, where ever he is now!

So enjoy your new environment. I tried to pick a sunny open spot near some trees for you.

You will always be in my thoughts, Bertrum Panda!

The gatekeepers of the data need to realise that backups are not an option!

Virtual lives are at stake and that affects real people too!

I am actually genuinely crying now. I’m not so sure why… It’s quite hard to type. I guess it also brings back memories of other (human) bereavements…

Anyway Bertrum Panda this is your space, in my virtual world. At least I can not fail you again.
