Do you want to tell a story?

“The Magic of NewNovelist is that it doesn’t feel as if you’re writing a book”
Roland White in the Sunday Times.
NewNovelist is billed as “thinking as we do”. Allegedly, whether you are an experienced or new author, it is designed to streamline the writing process and help you to finish your book!
It will also output the final version in a publisher friendly format, so submission is easy and hence more likely to be considered/welcomed by the publishers editors for acceptance.

Hmm! Ok it’s only £30 but is it worth it?
Firstly, before I bought it, I had a job imagining what it looked like.
When starting a new novel, you have to answer a wizard of about 7 questions, defining what type of novel you want to write. This in turn defines the “chapters” which are later provided by default.

Having completed the wizard you get a summary of your novel, with a structure as they (Creative Software Ltd) perceive it.

Once you finally get in to the main page of the software, you are confronted with 3 columns. The middle is where you actually type. Phew!

The left column houses the chapter guidelines, where a fixed plot development is offered as an example story development path template.

The right hand column lets you define your characters, objects, places and any research notes. But remember these are just for your own mental reference. They do not form part of the story. They are not snippets to insert. They are simply your definition of the characters to refer back to – presumably for consistency and to ensure you have even defined them.
You can skip these properties or update them as you go, as your story evolves. But it is a strong part of their concept that you do this planning.

The FAQ page is here;

But is sadly unfinished as of now, with the flash tutorial movie missing and the 92 page guide missing.
Bottom line, IMHO is that unless you are an experienced novel writer, who understands concepts like character definition and plot lines, you are going to be over whelmed
Whilst you may feel that should be obvious, I hardly think it fits with “thinks how you think”. It thinks how a “novelist” thinks.
