I seem to have challenged the Facebook model for apps, slightly!
I’d like to say I did it intentionally, but it was more of an accident.

There’s a good chance this won’t be a success, but that is why it is interesting

Viral Toys Bum Bites, was our first attempt at a Facebook app. We think it’s a great intentioned app with a erm. cheeky name. And 99.99% of the people get the fun aspect of it.

We call Bum Bite an EMOTION MESSENGER in that it is a way to say how you feel, easily and without embarrassment or going too far. All recipients seem to be well chuffed with receiving one!

We have no metrics on how many people have increased their “luck” but we are sure there are some!

But business wise we had a problem. Being nice isn’t viral
People don’t feel the need to be nice every day. Which is a SHAME!

So we scratched our heads…

And then we scratched our bums… (LOL)

Then we washed our hands and scratched our chins (one each…).

Stage 2 of BumBite needed to be viral. It needed to be something people wanted to do every day.

The status quo of Facebook is still list sharing (of one sort or another) with your friends.
What the list is of, seems to determine how successful the app is.

People exchange reading lists, favourite albums, who they think you like most like, all sorts of lists…

We didn’t want Bum Bite stage 2 to be a list. SO it is not!

It launches November 7th 2007. Early adopters will earn an extra surprise.

So what’s new about Bum Bite’s stage 2 then?

• Well it needs a manual to start with! Only a small one. But there is strategy involved. It is not just sharing a mindless list (even if it is a list which is personal or valuable to you).
• Secondly it requires thought and skill. Are Facebook citizens up to this?
• Thirdly – we can’t say reason 3 yet due to secrecy.

Is the Facebook generation ready and capable for this challenge?
Do University students have gonads?
Do Facebook dwellers run from the light or can they really participate and interact?

We’ll know soon after November the 7th 2007!
