Korg Stylophone (KAOS)
I hadn’t realised until just now, how like the (Durec / Rolf Harris) Stylophone the Korg KAOS pad is.
In it’s new incarnation the KAOScillator, sounds are already there built-in, so the musical note grid concept doesn’t even need a MIDI lead.
All the demos use a 100% gate, rather than any attack and decay envelopes, and no portamento either, which is why it sounds so like the stylus keypad’ed Stylophone. They’ve added velocity sensitivity and even modulation and filter sensitivity, but I can see Rolf coming back on tele’ with one of these!
I don’t know if it is capable of envelopes, it wants to, but otherwise I hope you can use it to trigger an external MIDI synth which does.
Now why on earth is there not a keyboard overlay to show where the pitch divisions are? Somebody needs to come up with this! If I had one, I’d do it – it only needs laser printing an OHP sheet cut to scale and size.
Otherwise it seems like weeing with the light off when standing up. AKA not such a great idea! (PS sit down or turn the light on…)
This demo video is in German (I think) but it makes no difference.. Play it again Ralf…
