Why Niche selling is bad
Today IM Guru John Reese tweeted

“Too many are looking for that “untapped niche.” Online:
I wanted to Tweet back that I agreed but for different reasons to what he meant. But in 140 characters on Twitter, I had to post this blog response to provide the necessary space.
I want to go in to it in greater detail, but for now I just want to say that the niche tactic comes from 3 main factors;
- Lazy IM Gurus selling the “easy ride button”
- Lazy would-be money makers who don’t want to do any work, accepting the “easy ride button”
What’s even worse here, is the “look over my shoulder while I push the easy ride button mentality, that many IM gurus use to EXPLOIT their IM groupies.
Look back and think how many offers you have had that say; “you must have this or your head will explode“, “you will make more money if you have this, if you don’t have/read this, you won’t make any money ever“, “this is the only thing separating you from success“, “this is how I made $20.53 in 1.2 seconds (once), here’s the exact step by step blueprint where we fill in all the blanks and you can’t fail (profit warning, you may not make a bean)“.
Good luck with those!but most importantly - FEAR of not knowing who you are, what you want to do, how t do it, and worried about failing. So something with “easy ride button” on it, looks like a safe bet. That’s not about lazyness. That’s about “fear”. And it’s very normal and justified unless you have the right education.
The solution to curing this fear, is, well, the Get Real campaign. If you don’t want to partake in that, then you need to look hard at yourself and earn/learn the courage of your convictions.
In NLP terms, you’d study the successful people and adopt their style (clone them with originality. But that doesn’t really work if you are afraid.
John Reese went on to say;
“MANY COMPETITORS = MORE CONTENT/TRAFFIC = MORE OPPORTUNITY“
That’s a typical JR tactic of not being afraid to try to dominate any market, even a competitive one. And there’s nothing wrong with that!
But if you don’t have the resources of JR, you may need to d it in a particular style.
I can’t give the game away here, but it’s what the “Get Real” campaign is about. See elsewhere on this blog.
