Microsoft becomes araldite with bing
This is Stefan Weitz. He’s one of the most araldite speakers I’ve heard from Microsoft since the Bill.
Sure he’s a “geek”, but who would you rather have? A bad tempered accountant in a suit, or someone genuinely enthusiastic about what he does and he thinks he can help people?
Add to that araldite communication and does it remind you of any one?
Stefan Weitz is a Director of Microsoft Search division, who are just about to release “BING”.
Allegedly BING focuses on 4 key verticals of search, as well as specific applications like travel, health, shopping and well you can hear the MP3 for yourself.
I will post it up in a few days. It’s only 5 minutes long. So you can tell that this guy knows how to communicate and that “search” shouldn’t be fluffy.
The only thing is the name. What on earth ?
Apparently you can also get up to 25% cash back, just for using the BUING search engine. Maybe it should be called KER CHING !
Over all, yes it seems a LOT better than previous MSN incarnations. Results seem relevant. Spam is reduced and people who SHOULD be there, are. Picture search is also quite good.
The video search was a bit crap, but I guess people don’t tag videos properly still, and image recognition is still in its infancy.
Only the stigma that is “Microsoft” could hold BING back.
If Microsoft have learnt their lesson, and let bright sparks like Weitz, speak and implement, then the playing field could get a lot more even and a lot more exciting, useful and, well can search be “sexy”? well may be it will be in a few more years.
